Housing & Tenant Advocacy

The Fair Housing program seeks to eliminate housing discrimination against all persons based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, families with children, sexual orientation, and other characteristics protected by state or local laws throughout Maryland. The program provides education to housing consumers about housing discrimination and how to report suspicious actions and policies. Education is also available to housing providers, lenders, and insurance companies on their responsibilities under Fair Housing laws. We not only investigate complaints and assist victims of housing discrimination, we also provide in-depth assistance with individual tenants, either through mediation or through code enforcement, referrals to legal service providers, or referrals to other agencies or organizations that could be of assistance.

MCRC also works to connect eligible renters and homeowners with financial assistance through Maryland’s Renters’ and Homeowners’ Tax Credits.

Fair housing & Tenant advocacy programs

Everyone has the right to safe housing, free from discrimination, harassment, and code violations. The Fair Housing Action Center of Maryland works to ensure landlords, lenders, realtors, and property managers are in compliance with the Fair Housing Act, and works to ensure tenants across Maryland are living in safe and healthy housing. We have two distinct program areas: Fair Housing Enforcement, and Tenant Advocacy. Click below to visit the Fair Housing Action Center of Maryland’s website to learn more about these programs.

Take the Credit

Renting or owning a home in Maryland is expensive. While rents and property taxes have risen exponentially over the last few decades, wages simply have not kept up.

That’s why Maryland established the Renters’ and Homeowners’ Tax Credits – to help low-income folks keep with up with the sky-rocketing costs of living in our state. Housing advocates at MCRC can help qualified renters and homeowners apply for this vital assistance from start to finish. Read below and check out our tax credit website to learn more!
