Renters' Tax Credit
The Renters’ Tax Credit is a program for low-income renters to help account for the sky-rocketing cost of rent in Maryland. The program provides financial assistance of up to $1,000 per year (that's $83.33 per month!) for tenants to use towards their rent.
This program is for low-income renters whose total assets do not exceed $200,000, and where the property is the main residence of the applicant. You might qualify if:
You are over 60 years old and meet financial qualifications, OR
You are permanently disabled and meet financial obligations, OR
You have at least one dependent, do not participate in a federal or state-sponsored housing subsidy program (like section 8), and meet financial requirements.

Homeowners' Tax Credit
Owning a home in Maryland is expensive! For many homeowners, property taxes have risen rapidly as wages remained stagnant. To combat this financial challenge, the Homeowners’ Tax Credit saves qualified Maryland residents hundreds – and sometimes thousands! – of dollars each year on property taxes.
To qualify, you must:
Own the home you live in AND
Have a combined household income of less than $60,000/year AND
Own a property worth less than $200,000
